Alien Terror
Discription:
A nice little game here, it's
short and sweet. I can't describe the game any better than the author:
"This is just a small game where you walk around killing aliens, thats
all I have to say . . ."
The story is quite simple. Earth has been invaded by green hungry
aliens. The army tried to eliminate these aliens but they were all
either eaten or processed into reserve alien fodder. Not surprisingly
it's your job to blast the hungry critters into green pulp and avoid
becoming their next meal.
Graphics:
The graphics are all very basic and
not that polished. However the author makes the effort to include
some variation in the visuals. Some of the landscapes include outdoor
green areas with trees, snowy scenes, city scapes and the aliens'
Headquarters. A nice touch is when you're shooting the aliens/animals
you get a green/red smear along the ground. Sometimes there are
already body bits present from the humans the aliens were snacking
on.
Level Design:
I feel the game is let down in this
aspect. The levels are all pretty much the same. They consist of a
box containing you, some hungry aliens, resident wildlife and a few
trees as obsticles. I think the game would be a lot better if the
levels were larger and contained more interesting obsticles and stuff.
Plus power-ups and new weapons would have made it a bit more exciting,
since you're not exactly spoilt with only nine levels.
Gameplay:
Again, another let-down. The game
really doesn't get any more exciting than run around, blast some
aliens, get hurt, blast some more aliens. A lot more could be done
with the nine levels. Power-up as I've mentioned above would be one
idea. You get nine levels and as you progress through each one there
are more aliens to kill making it harder - makes sense. You can alter
the game speed at startup which is useful. One thing i did notice is
it sometimes crashed if you held the alt button down before the level
properly started. Also the alien AI isn't amazing, they just run at
you mindlessly and it's quite easy to just run away and get them in a
line before taking them all out at once. Also the aliens sometimes get
stuck to trees which admittedly helps, but it's not supposed to
happen!
Sound:
There's four sounds triggered when
shooting, hurting aliens/animals and squashing aliens. They're not
brilliant but they're not crap either.
Final Comments:
While nothing new or exciting,
this game does amuse for 5 minutes. It has a few good ideas like
the blood trails but then we've seen those before. However the
game is free and it's nice effort but I won't be playing the sequel
unless it's substantially better.
